In 1959, Bill Walsh Sr. loaded up his pick up truck with samples of hardwood sawdust from a local sawmill and met with the purchasing agent at Swift Meat Packing Company in Portland, OR. He was hired by Swift to haul the sawdust, bought his first tractor and trailer and a company was born.
Five years later, operating 5 trucks to transport sawdust, the paper mills threw him a curve and took away his sawdust supplies. Undaunted, he convinced the paper companies that his small company was the best way to transport the sawmill residuals.
Since those early years, the company has expanded through acquisition, innovation, a mindset of servicing the customer above and beyond their needs while always operating the business with the highest level of integrity. In 2000, sensing a new opportunity, we began transporting solid waste. Today, Walsh Trucking owns and operates over 250 tractors, 500 trailers and is the largest transporter of wood residuals and solid waste in the Northwest. We operate out of 8 terminals in Oregon and Washington and transport solid waste from Idaho. We still maintain the identity established in 1959 that we are a local family owned business with strong ties to the communities in which we have a business base.
We credit our success to the 400 plus dedicated drivers, mechanics, operations and administrative professionals who work daily to satisfy our customer needs. We are dedicated to providing our employees competitive wages and a stable and safe work environment. We will continue to strengthen the company's position by emphasizing safety, innovation, investing in equipment and technology and dedication to providing superior service to our customers.
We are looking forward to another 50 years of success in the transportation industry.
